TRURO, N.S. — Some Compliments brand chicken nuggets may not be safe to eat.

Sofina Foods Inc is recalling the 1.5 kg packages of nuggets due to possible salmonella contamination.

The product, which  was sold nationally, except for Quebec, should be returned to the store where purchased or disposed of safely.

Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can make people very sick. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency advises that young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious, possibly sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people could experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications could include severe arthritis.
