PORT ELGIN, N.B. – Southeast District RCMP have positively identified human remains discovered on the bank of the Timber River near Port Elgin on May 5, 2018, as those of Tyler Fillmore.
In a statement released this morning, police said the investigation is ongoing, however foul play is not suspected in Fillmore’s death.
The Upper Cape man, a father of four, had been reported missing to police on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017. The same day, his vehicle was located off John A Trenholm Road in Port Elgin, and some of his personal belongings were found on a nearby wooded trail.
In the days that followed, Ground Search and Rescue crews, police dog services, RCMP dive teams, helicopters and local fire departments were deployed and searched the area. Fillmore’s family and friends, as well as a number of community members, had also been assisting in the search.
Police confirmed in early December that more of Fillmore’s personal items were discovered in a trailer in the Upper Cape area on Nov. 30. There had also been several reported sightings of him in the area, however the information was not given to police until some time had passed. The information was followed up on at the time but didn’t lead to anything concrete.
The human remains were discovered earlier this month by a person who was fishing in the area.
