Fifteen years after their deaths, a 64-year-old man has been ordered to stand trial for the murders of Mary Lou Barnes and her son Larry Mills Jr.

The trial was ordered by a judge after a preliminary hearing wrapped up last Wednesday after two-and-a-half weeks in Moncton provincial court.

Raymond Joseph White, who is still in custody, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the Nov. 1995 deaths of 37-year-old Mary Lou Barnes and 12-year-old Larry Mills Jr.

The bodies of the mother and son were found in their British Settlement home on Nov. 6, 1995. The autopsies revealed they had died of suffocation.

The homicides had remained unsolved until earlier this year, when RCMP were able to lay charges against White in April after a break came in the 15-year-old case when new information came to light.

A date for the trial, which will be heard by judge and jury in Court of Queen's Bench, has not yet been set.
