It's official. Megan Mitton is the new MLA for Memramcook-Tantramar.
Mitton's victory was confirmed by a judicial recount that finished today, with the results showing the numbers consistent with those reported by Elections NB on election night.
Mitton, the riding's first Green Party MLA, won her seat by a mere 11 votes over incumbent Liberal MLA Bernard LeBlanc. Mitton had received 3,148 votes while LeBlanc brought in 3,137.
The recount, which was requested by LeBlanc and his brother, began Wednesday afternoon in a Moncton courtroom and was completed Friday afternoon. A recount is automatically granted when requested in a riding where the margin of victory is within 25 votes. The cost of the recount is paid for by Elections NB.
