SACKVILLE, N.B. – Classic car lovers will be in seventh heaven this Friday evening as Sackville’s Old Fashion Friday Night Cruise rolls into town.

Joyce O’Neil, main organizer of the event, said dozens of classic cars are expected to attend the inaugural event.

She said the idea for the Friday Night Cruise first came about when she was approached by a couple of antique car owners who were interested in taking a cruise to Sackville.

Having had a hand in organizing the Sackville Fall Fair’s annual show ‘n’ shine for several years, O’Neil said she felt the event would prove popular.

When she proposed the idea to the Town of Sackville, they were quick to jump on board, she said, and have been very supportive in helping to organize the event.

“So we delivered fliers to pretty near every car show in the last month and a half and there seems to be a lot of interest.”

She expects a good turnout for Friday night’s event based largely on her experience with the Fall Fair car show and its popularity throughout the years.

“I think last year there were about 142 cars,” she explained, “and we turned some away because we couldn’t get them into the park.”

The Old Fashion Friday Night Cruise will be held from 6:30-9 p.m. this Friday evening at the Bill Johnstone Memorial Park. Main Street from York Street to Wellington Street will be closed to accommodate the classic cars. There will also be a live performance by Patty O’ Boy and the Beach Toys, as well as a charity BBQ and plenty of nostalgia.
