SACKVILLE, N.B. — The small community with a big heart.
That’s the message that came through loud and clear during a special donor recognition event last week, celebrating the generosity of area residents who once again came through for the Sackville Memorial Hospital Foundation’s annual fundraising campaign.
“We are overwhelmed,” said foundation campaign chair Pat Estabrooks. “Our donors have dug deep.”
Thanks to the generous donors, the SMHF campaign, called the X-ray Vision that Delivers campaign, raised $280,000 – exceeding its goal by more than $20,000.
This year’s project marks the foundation’s most ambitious campaign in its history, this one aimed at improving the care the hospital’s medical imaging professionals deliver by providing advanced imaging technology for those whose lives depend on it. The funds have been invested in a critical mobile digital x-ray unit and a modern radiology table.
The new unit allows the radiation technologists to take x-rays at the bedside throughout the hospital when a patient is too ill to have their procedure completed within the medical imaging department. It replaces a 2004 analog unit.
Estabrooks said when the foundation introduced its campaign this past spring, she was unsure whether it would be able to meet such an ambitious goal.
“I thought we may have stepped too far outside the box this time . . . but you have proven us wrong yet again,” she said.
Elaine Smith, foundation chair, said the success of this campaign shows how much value the community places on its hospital.
“We have been blown away by your generosity.”
