SACKVILLE, N.B. — With 30 teams expected to hit the ice on Saturday, Feb. 1, organizers are looking at another successful Curl for Cancer event again this year.

The 2020 Sackville Curl for Cancer fundraiser, held at the local curling club from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., is the 29th edition of the event and the organizing committee is aiming to raise $15,000 in support of cancer research and support services for people living with the disease. Over its history, the event has raised more than $350,000.

The funspiel will see each team play two three-end games and prizes will be awarded to the top individual fundraiser, top team fundraiser, most enthusiastic team and the best costumed team. There will also be a 50/50 draw and door prize tickets.

Even if you’re not a participant, residents are encouraged to drop by the curling club anytime throughout the day to support this worthy cause. Food and beverages will be available for purchase and talented local musicians and dancers will provide great entertainment for participants and spectators. The entertainment gets under way at 11 a.m. and includes Slim Pickens, Christine Gilroy, Mike Maillet, the Perpetual Motion Dancers, RA & Jack and the Jills.

The Sackville Curl for Cancer event takes place at around the same time as World Cancer Day each year, an international day to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. This year, World Cancer Day is being held on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
