SACKVILLE, N.B. — Local emergency service crews are joining together once again this year to put on a festive Parade of Lights for the community.

Sackville firefighters, RCMP, ambulance personnel, and public works crews will decorate their vehicles and ‘parade’ around town on the night of Saturday, Dec. 7 as they look to spread some holiday spirit to young and old alike.

The event, now its seventh year, has been well received by the community since its inception. And Shawn Phinney, Sackville fire department member and parade organizer, said he expects this year will be no different.

“The department is working hard to make sure this year’s event is a great one,” said Phinney. “We hope the public enjoys this as much as we do putting it on.”

The aim behind the parade has always been to provide an opportunity to families, particularly those who may not be able to travel to Moncton or Amherst for their annual parades, to enjoy a holiday event such as this.

Kicking off at 6:30 p.m. at the fire station (with a 6 p.m. line-up), the Parade of Lights will make its way through various neighbourhoods around town, trying to cover as much area as possible. The parade is expected to take about 45 minutes to an hour with the vehicles returning to the station at the end of the event.

Everyone is encouraged to head outside to see all of the emergency services crews drive by with their vehicles lit up with Christmas lights – and “as always, Santa will be making an appearance.”
