Liam Alexander MacNeil of Railroad Street pleaded guilty to a count of public mischief by intending to have someone else suspected of committing an offence by diverting suspicion from himself.

He was charged in connection with a Sept. 25, 2016, single-vehicle accident in which William Francis Gittens, 40, of Dutch Brook, died. Gittens, a father of four, was ejected from the Chevrolet Suburban when it crashed on Highway 28 in South Bar shortly before 1:30 a.m.

MacNeil was alleged to have told police that Gittens, not himself, was the driver of the vehicle.

He will be sentenced Sept. 14.
