One man was taken to hospital suffering from burns and smoke inhalation following a firebombing in the Shea Heights area of St. John’s early Monday, Jan. 27.
Platoon chief Robert Hiscock of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department told the Telegram that they were called to the house on Chafe Avenue by Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers who had responded to the incident at about 2 a.m.
He said a suspect, or suspects, apparently kicked in the front door of the home and threw a flaming container of fuel inside, igniting that area of the house.
The four occupants, an older man and woman and a younger man and woman, escaped the house, but not before the younger male was injured. A family dog escaped and ran away and a cat was located later and given oxygen by firefighters.
Once the fire was out, police could be seen examining the damage. The inside of the home was extensively damaged and scorch marks could be seen outside the front door.
More details will be provided as they become available.
