SACKVILLE, N.B - Schools throughout the Tantramar Region are closed and thousands of area residents remain without power as a winter storm continues to batter the region.
As of 12:40 p.m., NB Power reports there are 22 outages in the region, affecting 8,402 customers. Although The utility had estimated power should be restored to most of the area by 2 p.m this afternoon, shortly after that time they announced an estimate is now unavailable.
There are currently 223 outages throughout the province, affecting 36,091 customers.
Environment Canada is warning the storm will bring 20-30 cm of snow to the region before tapering to flurries late this afternoon or early this evening.
The national weather service is also warning that strong Northerly winds with gusts up to 80 km/h will give occasional reduced visibility in blowing snow.
“Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve,” they state in a snowfall warning for the region. “Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.”
