Ann Gertrude (Starritt) Gray

June 28, 1924-April 13, 2018 PORT ELGIN, N.B.- It is with deep sadness that the family of Ann Gray announces her passing on Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Westford Nursing Home in Port Elgin. Ann passed away peacefully at the age of 93, with her loving family by her side. Born on June 28, 1924 in Lower Truro, N.S, she was the daughter of the late Ruby Mildred (Cochrane) and Charles Starritt. Ann taught Messengers and Sunday School in Baie Verte and Port Elgin for many years, something which she thoroughly enjoyed. She was also a life-long member of the Fort Beausejour Chapter IODE. Ann was employed with the Marshlands Inn for twenty years until her retirement, working in guest services, where she enjoyed meeting new people and the great relationships she had with her fellow employees. She loved animals and was always very kind to them. She really loved being a Maritimer and was very proud to live here. Ann was affectionately known as Grammie to many people. To her granddaughter, Audra McKinley, Grammie was more like her best friend, being like two old souls together. Audra spent as much of her time with her Grammie as she could from the young age of five and all the way into adulthood. They shared a very special and unique bond. Ann will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Ann will be lovingly remembered by her children, Donald Brenton, Daphna, Robert, Barbara and Heather; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as by several nephews. Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband, Alexander William Gray in 1994; her daughter, Patricia; her three sisters, Marion, Elizabeth and Verna “Bunny”, as well as by several of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (506) 364-8188. A reception in celebration of Ann’s life will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 2 pm until 3:30 pm. The family will be sharing memories at 2:30. There is an opportunity at that time for other family and friends to also share their memories, if desired. If so desired, donations in memory of Ann may be made to the local SPCA in your community, the Lillian Allbon Animal Shelter, the Canadian Lung Association or to the charity of one’s choice.
