It is with much sadness that the family of Brian Stuart Ward of Sussex, N.B. announces his passing on March 21, 2019 at the age of 69 years after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Brian was born in Sackville, N.B. on April 26, 1949 to the late Donald Patrick Secord and Kathleen (White) Ward. Joining the reserves in high school, he continued on his military career, taking basic training in Cornwallis, N.S. then serving with the Regular Forces from ’71-’87 and with the Reserves after retirement. He served with the Armoured Corps (LDSH and RCD) and Construction Engineering Corps (Air Force) with posting in Lahr, Germany, Calgary, and Ottawa as well as peacekeeping in Cyprus. After his military career, he moved back to Amherst, N.S. and took over his father’s business, Ward’s Shoe Repair, which he operated until 2003, when he went to work with the Corp of Commissionaires at the Cobequid Pass. Brian was a natural born “Mr. Fix It” – if he didn’t know how to fix it, he would figure it out. He was a wonderful son to both his parents and looked after them all their lives. He was a devoted father and spent many hours over many years coaching his boys’ baseball and hockey teams and teaching them many life lessons. His two boys have many fond memories of their dad and all the things he made and did with them, which they will cherish forever. He loved being a grandfather and it was nothing to see him play harder than the kids. He was a wonderful and giving husband who deeply loved his wife, Cheryl, and had felt so lucky to have found her eleven years ago. He loved going on adventures, so life was always fun with him. He truly loved his Sussex family and friends and was so glad to be a part of all their lives. Brian leaves behind his devoted wife, Cheryl Gail Ward (nee Sparks); his two loving sons, Logan Stuart (Aynsley) Ward and Nathan Patrick (Jody) Ward; step son, David Michael (Patricia) Easton; grandchildren, Isaiah, Silas, Lachlan, and Aila, as well as Justin (Sarah) Margeson, Jonathan and Maggie Easton and special family member, Tania Margeson. He also leaves his niece, Cheryl Lynn Ward; nephew, Paul Stephen Ward; his aunt, Irma White and many cousins. Besides his parents, Brian was predeceased by his brother Stephen Donald Ward. No funeral service at Brian’s request. A committal service will take place later in the spring in Westcock Cemetery, Sackville, N.B. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, N.S. Donations in Brian’s memory may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation, Colchester East Hants Hospice Society or a charity of one’s choice.
