It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Cecelia Angela "Markey" Richard, 92, of Sackville, on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at the Drew Nursing Home. Born in Rexton, NB, Markey was a daughter of the late William and Ann (Brown) Markey. Markey was a Registered Nurse for forty years with the Sackville Memorial Hospital as a very devoted maternity nurse and finishing her career as the Director of Nursing before her retirement. Following retirement, she served as a Coroner for the Province of New Brunswick for several years. She was a member of St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church in Sackville. She was an avid knitter and loved to read and play cards. In her younger years, she enjoyed spending time at the cottage and camping. Markey was an active member of the Sackville community and a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She successfully balanced her career with a very active family life. She will be missed by her four daughters, Susan Richard (Paul Hodgkins), Toronto, Catherine Richard (Bill Sigsworth), Sackville, Joanne Richard (Dale Cournoyer), Victoria, BC, and Jocelyn Richard (Bill Roy), Scotland; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Markey was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Willie Richard; one brother and six sisters. Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (506-364-1300). A funeral Mass will be held from the St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church, Sackville on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 11 am with a reception to follow, Father Allison Carroll presiding. Donations in memory of Markey may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
