The death of Donald James Hicks, 93, of Sackville, occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. Born in Midgic, Donald was a son of the late Ezra and Mary Hicks. He was formerly employed with Mount Alison University for 13 years and was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, Sackville, N.B. “Donnie” loved life and meeting up with family and friends. In later years he loved drives in the country and his favourite time of the year was Christmas when he wowed the neighbourhood with his Christmas lights and his Christmas trees were a well-known work of art. He was the HICKS genealogist and had an amazing ability to tell who was related to who right down to third and fourth cousins. He also loved farming and especially loved his flower and vegetable gardens, tending them regularly up until his passing. Donald will be sadly missed by his wife, Dorothy (nee Turner), of Sackville; sons James, Sackville and Jerry (Stephen Puddle), Sackville; a brother; Edward (Caroline), Sackville; a sister Bonita (Mervyl) Thompson, of Moncton; sisters-in-law, Alice Siddall, Bertha Urquhart, and Florence Hicks, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Donald was predeceased by brothers Richard, Ronald, Winston and Hugh, and sisters, Frances Lund, Catherine Turner, Eunice Hicks. Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B. (506-364-1300). A graveside service was held at the Sackville Cemetery, York Street, on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018 at 2 p.m. A light lunch and reception will follow at Jones Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Donations in memory of Donald may be made to the Midgic Baptist Church or the Midgic Cemetery.
