It is with heavy hearts and sadness that the family of Edward Bowes announce his passing on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the Moncton Hospital. Born on August 24, 1940, Edward was the son of the late Russell and Roberta (Chapman) Bowes of Dorchester, NB. As a young man, Edward joined the US Army and served in Vietnam. Upon returning home, he attended the New Brunswick Institute of Technology and the University of New Brunswick, spending all of his teaching career at Saint John Vocational School. After he and Barbara moved to Sackville, Edward continued his passion for local history as a member of the Westmorland Historical Society. He was always an avid reader. Edward also enjoyed time spent at his cottage on Dorchester Cape. Other passions included NASCAR and country music, especially the music of his "hero", Willie Nelson. Edward loved his family very much and will be greatly missed by his wife of 37 years, Barbara (Calvert), Sackville; daughter, Andrea Bowes (Jonas Watson), Fredericton, and son Eddie (Amber), Fredericton. He is also survived by four brothers, Frederick "Bud" (Brenda), Salt Spring Island, BC, Barry (Helen), Kingston, ON, Gary (Mary), Petitcodiac, NB, and Malcolm (Becky), Doaktown, NB, and three sisters, Laurie, Vancouver, BC, Carol Green (Phil), Maple Ridge, BC, and Margie LeGood (Paul), Moncton, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Edward was predeceased by his infant brother, Gregory. Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (506-364-1300) from where a time of visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Monday, February 25, 2019. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 2 pm. Father Allison Carroll presiding. Interment will take place at the Dorchester Rural Cemetery in the spring. Donations in memory of Edward may be made to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Westmorland Historical Society.
