Elizabeth Manson “Lizzie” Baxter
1920-2018 Elizabeth Manson "Lizzie" Baxter, 98, of Port Elgin, and formerly of Tidnish Bridge, N.B., passed away at the Westford Nursing Home on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. Born in Hightae, Scotland, Lizzie was a daughter of the late John and Janet (Rogerson) Thomson. Lizzie was a member of St. James United Church, Baie Verte, and a member of the Fort Monkton Chapter of the Order Of The Eastern Star. She immigrated with her parents and family to Canada from Scotland in 1927, at the age of 7 and grew up on Hall's Hill, attending school in Jolicure. She married Chester Baxter in 1950. Together they worked and lived in Dartmouth, Cape Breton, and Newfoundland before returning to live in Tidnish Bridge in 1957. She was a great lover of the outdoors. Lizzie enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting and community work. She will be sadly missed by three sons, Chesley (Dianna), John (Joyce) and Stephen (Kathleen) all of Tidnish Bridge; six grandchildren, Lee (Monique), Marie (Steve), George (Laura), Laura (Robert), William (Angela), and Melissa, six great grandchildren, Alex, Emily, Sarah, Audrina, Mira, and Cameron; a sister-in-law, Marion Baxter, Amherst, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Chester, as well as three brothers, John, Andrew, and Robert. Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home. A time of visitation was held from their Port Elgin location, 3 West Main Street, Port Elgin, Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. with a funeral service held on Sunday at 2 p.m. Wayne Jarvis DLM officiated. Burial will take place in the Riverside Cemetery, Tidnish Bridge, N.S. Donations in memory of Lizzie may be made to PEDVAC or St. James United Church, Baie Verte.
