HINES, Thomas James Guy April 13 1993 - June 17, 2019 As a result of a canoeing accident in British Columbia. Thomas is survived by his parents, Barbara Guy and Harold Hines, of Tatamagouche; his brother, Benjamin and Ben's partner, Cheyanne Lepka, Calgary; grandmothers, Edith Hines and Marilyn Guy, both of Dartmouth. He also leaves many friends, and aunts and uncles, Catherine and Justin Murray, Patricia and Wayne Avery, Anne Guy and Leo Feinstein, Philip and Nancy Hines, Andrew and Nancy Hines, and Carolyn Guy and Steven Bradbury; cousins, Julia, Andrew, Matthew, Suzanne, Joshua, Elijah, Christopher, Chantal, Jessica, Jillian, Christine, Rebecca, David and Laura. Thomas was born in Yellowknife, NWT, and grew up in Sackville, NB. He was a graduate of Tantramar Regional High School and Dalhousie University. His passions were friends and family, music (he played guitar, bass, drums, composed electronic music, and sang), hiking, food, snowboarding and scuba diving. He was a dedicated reader of non-fiction, and was always happy to discuss or debate ideas about human nature and history. He traveled a lot, with his family and on long journeys with friends, or solo. After university he traveled and worked in the hospitality industry. In 2016 he hiked 1600 kilometers of the Appalachian trail. In 2017 he lived in Australia and traveled widely while there. In 2018 he moved to Banff, and in 2019 he moved to the Sunshine coast of BC. Thomas was a generous person. He was a monthly donor to Oxfam. On his last birthday, he chose, after careful consideration and research, to fundraise for the Against Malaria Foundation. In his memory, donations to either of these causes are greatly appreciated by his family. Thomas had an inquisitive and open mind. He liked to learn about diverse things, whether biology, the environment, history, politics or technology. He had many questions and opinions and enjoyed debating the elements of our world. A memorial service will be held on October 19 at the Balmoral Kirk, The Falls, Nova Scotia. 2148 Route 311, at 1:30. Reception to follow.
