SACKVILLE, N.B. – Former Amherst Regional High School basketball players Lauren MacEachern and Lauren Chitty played their final home game with the Mount Allison Mounties women’s basketball team on Feb. 23.
After the game MacEachern and Chitty, along with four other graduates, were celebrated for their many contributions to the Mounties.
The graduating Mounties were all part of a Mounties team that pulled off a dramatic second half comeback over MSVU to claim the 2018 ACAA Championship in Truro last March.
The Mounties stormed back from 17 points down in the 3rd quarter to eventually win the championship game in overtime.
The Mounties then hosted the 2018 CCAA Women's Basketball Championship just two weeks later for the first time in school history.
MacEachern has represented the Mounties twice at CCAA Nationals, the first time during her rookie season in 2014-2015 and again last spring, while Chitty was a big part of last year's run to nationals.
The team lost their final home game 49-41 to St. Thomas University, finishing third in the 2018-2019 ACAA regular season standings, four points behind the Saint Thomas, and 12 points behind Mount Saint Vincent University.
The championship tournament is March 1 to 3 at Crandall University.
