SYDNEY, N.S. — The host Sydney Academy Wildcats opened the Governors Pub and Eatery Wildcat Invitational basketball tournament with a win and a loss on Friday.

The Wildcats began the two-day tournament with an 87-75 loss to the North Nova Gryphons of New Glasgow, before beating the Millwood Knights of Middle Sackville, 88-79, later in the day.

Meanwhile, the Glace Bay Panthers lost their only game of the day, 86-63, to the Lockview Dragons of Fall River.

In other action, North Nova beat Millwood 64-63, and Lockview downed the Sir John A Macdonald Flames 83-78.

The tournament will continue on Saturday with Glace Bay playing Sir John A at 9 a.m. to finish the round robin.

The semifinals are slated for 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., while third place teams in both divisions will meet at 2:15 p.m.

The championship contest will be played at 4 p.m. Saturday.
