SACKVILLE, N.B. — The town will once again shine a spotlight on Mount Allison athletics this week as it gets set to host its fifth annual Mountie Day.
Mountie Day, which will be held tomorrow (Thursday, March 28), is an event that recognizes and celebrates the important contributions Mount Allison student-athletes make to the community.
Mayor John Higham made the declaration for Mountie Day during town council’s meeting earlier this month, urging everyone to come together to show their Mountie pride.
“I encourage our council, our staff and the entire Sackville community to show your support for Mount Allison athletics on March 28th and wear your garnet and gold, show your support in your home and business windows, and most of all, to continue to support our athletes and the various athletic programs,” he said.
To show its support, the town will raise the Mount Allison athletics flag and host a brief ceremony and reception at 11 a.m. at Sackville town hall.
Mount Allison’s athletics director Pierre Arsenault said it is “humbling” for the town to continue to recognize the university’s athletes in this way and said it is always a very special day for the Mountie community.
