SACKVILLE, N.B. – The Sackville Titans girls basketball team went undefeated last weekend to capture top honours at the Sackville Invitational Tournament.
The Titans defeated Moncton Hawks C 47-31 and then took down the Riverview Royals 50-26 to book a spot in the gold-medal game against Miramichi Pulamoo B.
It was a hard-fought battle, with the lead going back and forth in the final quarter between two evenly matched teams. With 9.3 seconds left in the game, Miramichi took a one-point lead, but the Titans responded with an attempt that was tipped out of bounds, giving the Titans back the ball on their own end line with 3.5 seconds on the clock. The Titans got the ball in to point guard, sharp shooter and tournament MVP, Lindsay Kaye, who shot faked, took one dribble to get around her defender, then hit the game-winning shot with 0.7 seconds remaining. Miramichi’s inbound pass was intercepted by player of the game Penelope Anderson and the banner and gold medals went to the Titans with a 42-41 victory.
The Titans are having a terrific season, moving the ball well on offence, hitting it from the outside and down low, and they continue to demonstrate tremendous team spirit and intense team defense.
