The Halifax Wanderers are on to the next round of the Canadian Championship.

They beat Valour FC 2-0 in Winnipeg on Wednesday to complete a 4-1 victory in the two-game aggregate series.

The Wanderers now advance to the third leg of the event against the Ottawa Fury of the United Soccer League. The matches in the next round will be on July 10 and 24.

After a scoreless first half that featured several nice saves by Valour keeper Tyson Farago, the Wanderers finally broke through in the 58th minute. Mohammed Kourouma curled a shot into the corner on a free kick to snap the scoreless draw.

Despite holding the lead, the Wanderers did not sit back in the second half. They continued to press for more offence and Andre Bona delivered the insurance marker in injury time.

Halifax keeper Jan-Michael Williams dealt with 11 Valour shots in the shutout.

The Wanderers beat Valour 2-1 in the opening game of the series last Wednesday in Halifax. Tomasz Skublak and Kourouma were the scorers.

Game 1 against the Fury will be at the Wanderers Grounds on July 10.

Cavalry FC beat Forge FC 2-1 on Tuesday to give them a 3-2 aggregate victory in their leg of the Canadian Championship. They will now face the Vancouver Whitecaps of MLS in the third round.

The Wanderers’ next Canadian Premier League game is next Wednesday against Cavalry FC of Calgary at the Wanderers Grounds. Cavalry is in first place with a perfect 5-0 record and the Wanderers are fourth at 2-3-1.
