Cameron Whynot is the highest-ranked Nova Scotian for the upcoming QMJHL draft.
The Valley Wildcats defenceman was rated fourth overall in the league’s Central Scouting rankings, released on Wednesday.
Defenceman Oscar Plandowski (13th) and forward Riley Kidney (17th) are the other locals projected to go in the first round. Two forwards from Quebec — Joshua Roy and Justin Robidas — are ranked No. 1 and 2, respectively, and forward Peter Reynolds of New Brunswick is third.
Other Nova Scotians ranked in the top four rounds are: forward Cam MacDonald (20th), forward Matthew MacDonald (28th), forward Jacob Melanson (30th), goalie Jacob Goobie (45th), forward Cole Foston (48th), forward Connor Trenholm (65th) and defencemen Luke Vardy (66th) and Zach Welsh (67th). Goobie is the highest-rated goalie.
The draft will be he held in Quebec City on June 8.
