Design of new town hall, emergency services building nearly complete
From a reed design on the front windows to a red-and-beige sandstone façade to an entrance pavilion that will showcase local artwork, Sackville's new emergency services and town hall facility will feature one-of-a-kind qualities the town is known for.
The design phase of the building is nearing completion and construction tenders are expected to go out next month, says Andrew Amos, the senior engineering consultant on the project, (more)

Health centre holds open house for area residents
An open house at the newly-relocated Port Elgin and Regional Health Centre was held on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Port Elgin Regional School.
Many area residents as well as representatives from the Horizon Health Network, School District 2, village of Port Elgin and other special guests turned out for the event. (more)

Former Sackville police chief dies
Former police chief Stewart McFee, who patrolled the streets of Sackville for more than two-and-a-half decades, has died.
McFee died Sunday (Feb. 28) at the age of 60 at Sackville Memorial Hospital after losing his battle with cancer. (more)

The town of Sackville is planning a number of activities this spring that will recognize the national celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Navy.

Fundraising benefit planned for victims of recent storm surge
People in the Port Elgin area are rallying around their neighbours who are faced with major repairs after the flood in early January.
A number of area residents sustained much damage to their homes and properties during the storm surge which caused extensive flooding to homes and businesses on the shores of the Gaspereau River and Baie Verte. (more)

March is Red Cross Month
From delivering to meals to seniors, to providing disaster relief and offering home care programs and health equipment to Tantramar residents, Sackville's Red Cross services are an invaluable resource for the residents of the area.
And the community will celebrate having access to those programs throughout the month of March as the local staff and volunteers get set to host various events in commemoration of Red Cross month. (more)

Podium proud
While the Canadian Olympic Committee's much-heralded Own the Podium campaign pretty much fizzled with this country failing to finish at the very top of the medal standings, that doesn't mean we should look upon the Vancouver Games as being a failure.
On the contrary, there were many bright moments for Canadian athletes during the two weeks of competition. And no matter what the British tabloids choose to print about the Olympics and this country's ability to host them, we all should be proud as Canadians for a job well done. More than that, however, we should be prepared to celebrate a strong showing by this country's athletes - including those who led the way to the medal podium. (more)

Mount A wins 2010 ACAA badminton conference championship
For the second year in a row, the Mounties' badminton team ended the season with a solid performance and victories in four of five categories to clinch first place and win the Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) badminton conference championship held at Mount Allison on Saturday, Feb. 20.
Favoured to win in doubles, Brent Barkhouse and rookie Eric Freeman and Carrie and Heather Murray both sailed through Saturday's games winning every set and every match to take first place and earn top points. (more)

Mounties win major ACAA volleyball awards
Three volleyball Mounties have been honoured with several major awards from the 2009-2010 Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association (ACAA) volleyball season.
Laurie Marchbank was selected as the league's MVP and a first-team all-star. Allison Settle was honoured as a second-team all-star and the conference's rookie of the year. And sophomore Caila Henderson, last year's ACAA rookie, was chosen as a first-team all-star. (more)

Black Tie Productions heading back to the '90s
Mount Allison University's Black Tie Productions is revisiting the 1990s for its annual fundraiser show.
Black Tie's Back! (alright!) will showcase current cast members and recent alumni's talent with musical acts, skits and dance that capture the spirit of '90s boy bands, tv shows and fashion, to name a few. Members of Mount Allison's much-loved improv show will also be making a guest appearance.
The show, which is open to everyone, will take place Thursday, March 4 at 8:30 p.m. in Live Bait Theatre. Admission is by donation. (more)

SappyFest set to welcome back Old Man Luedecke
SappyFest is getting set for the return of Old Man Luedecke, banjo picker and pride of Chester, N.S.
The Juno award-winning songwriter will perform a rare concert at Vogue Theatre on Saturday, March 20 at 7 p.m.
Old Man Luedecke is one of Canada's best-loved and most intriguing roots singer-songwriters.
