Black Duck Inn’s application approved for outdoor patio
SACKVILLE, N.B. – The Black Duck Inn will take another stab at operating a sidewalk café this summer.
Town council approved the application last week for the Black Duck Inn’s outdoor café, which will run from May 1 to Oct. 31 in front of their business at 19 Bridge Street.
“This is a significantly different site plan than what was proposed last year,” said Lori Bickford, planner with the regional planning commission.
Owners of the downtown cafe and town officials butted heads last summer when the municipality revoked the business’ patio license. Both sides had not been able to come to a satisfactory resolution over whether the Black Duck was complying properly with the requirements set out in their original sidewalk café plan.
But the business owners have come back to the table with a new application, which will feature fewer table-and-chair sets as well as a wooden fence instead of a rope to enclose the patio area.
As with all sidewalk café approvals, the town has set out a number of conditions that the Black Duck Inn must follow, including: the sidewalk café comply with all requirements of the town’s sidewalk café operating procedures; the café not operate beyond 11 p.m.; the applicant must provide proof of insurance in accordance with the café operating procedures; among others.
