SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The Saint John Mill Rats announced the signing of local basketball player, 6'3 guard Mike Anderson, Thursday at a press conference in the centre court of Brunswick Square.

Anderson, from Grand Bay, is a 2005 graduate of Harbour View High School and played his college ball at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. He made the Varsity Reds as a walk on five years ago, playing under five minutes per game, but emerged as a leader of the team in his last two years, averaging 13.5 and 16.5 points per game.

He first joined the team during their inaugural season in the Port City in January of 2011. Last season, the Mill Rats left the Premier Basketball League and started the National Basketball League of Canada with the Halifax Rainmen. This will be the third season for the Mill Rats playing in Saint John.

"I'm super excited to have the opportunity to play pro ball again for the Mill Rats. I've been working hard on my game and I'm looking forward to competing at this level again. Having Dave Cooper as a coach is going to be an awesome experience - I have a lot of respect for him and for his knowledge of the game," Anderson says.

Head coach David Cooper looks forward to the season, adding, "I'm excited to have Mike on our roster, first as a person and secondly, as a player. He is an exceptional athlete that can help us on both ends of the floor. He's a spark in the locker room, on the court and in the community. I'm excited to have the opportunity to coach and work with him."

The Saint John Mill Rats regular season opener is Nov. 3 at Harbour Station.
