Mill Rats post last-minute win against Miracles

MONCTON, N.B. – The Moncton Miracles lost in a battle to the Saint John Mill Rats in their first pre-season game, 110-107.

Moncton’s Devin Sweetney had a big start for Moncton early on, draining three after three. The Miracles led for the most of the game until the Mill Rats took over with only 6:28 left in the game. Darrell Wonge hit a big shot with 7.6 seconds left to bring Moncton within two points but it was too late.

Devin Sweetney and David Tairu were the top scorers for the Miracles with 18 points each. Darrell Wonge followed with 17 points.

For the Mill Rats, Joe Posey scored 18 points off the bench, Jerice Crouch had 17 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.  Five other Mill Rats scored in double figures.

Joe Posey led the way for the Mill Rats with 18 points. Jerice Crouch was right behind him with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Moncton plays their next pre-season game against the Summerside Storm on Friday, Oct. 26. Tip off is 7 p.m. at the Credit Union Place. The Miracles play their home opener against the Quebec Kebs on Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Moncton Coliseum.

The Mill Rats are back in action tonight, Oct. 25, for the Funtastic $4 Rogers Slam Dunk Game versus the Halifax Rainmen at Harbour Station. Their regular season opener is Nov. 3 at Harbour Station.

The Mill Rats and Moncton Miracles are part of the National Basketball League of Canada.
