Sarah Quintin heads out on the bike portion of last year’s Sackville Triathlon. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 23.
SACKVILLE, N.B. – The 17th edition of the Sackville Triathlon is set to go at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23 at Lillas Fawcett Park.
Organized by the Tantramar Outdoor Club with the support of the Town of Sackville, the main event features a sprint distance 750 m swim in Silver Lake, the usual 20 km bike to the Goose Lake Road in Midgic and back, and a 5 km run. There is also a duathlon option in which athletes commence with a 3 km run instead of the swim, and bike and run the above routes.
Organizers again expect hundreds of athletes from all over the Maritimes and beyond to descend upon Sackville for this popular event. There are usually 15 to 20 local athletes participating.
As this is a relatively flat course, and is late in the season, it is an ideal event for first timers. The public is most welcome to come and watch this exciting event. The sight of hundreds of bicycles streaming across the Midgic marsh at 30 to 40 km per hour is awe inspiring! Remember however, it is best to travel in this area by foot or bike due to traffic congestion.
